There are lots of ways to get involved with amateur dramatics at SUDS. If you’re looking to act with us, we run play readings and auditions for all our productions which is a great way to meet other members and to find out more about the society. Our upcoming production, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, is now fully cast and rehearsals are well under way. But you can contact us to be added to our mailing list and we will email you about any further opportunities arising!
Other Ways to Get Involved
None of our productions could take place without the dedication and talent of lots of people behind the scenes. We offer training and mentoring from experienced members of our team in technical roles including lighting and sound production as well as set design. You can find out more about just some of the skills that go into making every SUDS production below. If you’re interested in joining the society, or would like to get involved with any of our back of house teams, then please get in touch with us.
Directing
We’re always looking for new directors and suggestions for new plays for SUDS to perform. If you’d be interested in directing or assistant directing for SUDS or shadowing a more experienced director, we’d love to hear from you.
Production and Stage Management
Our production teams manage every aspect of moving our plays from rehearsal to performance. This includes managing the get-in to the theatre, health and safety, coordinating with the technical team, managing props, set design, set building and helping to run the technical rehearsal.
Costume Design
Many of the costumes used in our productions are designed and tailor-made by our talented costume team. We’re always looking for enthusiastic sewers to get involved with helping to make our productions as visually exciting and authentic as possible. Some sewing experience is preferable but not essential.
Lighting and Sound Production
Our lighting and sound teams are responsible for making sure our shows look and sound amazing. The roles require a combination of creativity and technical know-how as well as an ability to learn quickly and work effectively with the director and production teams. We welcome anyone with previous experience in these areas but also offer in-house training for anyone looking to learn the ropes.
Front of House and Marketing
The front of house team is responsible for selling tickets, ushering on performance nights and serving refreshments, they play a key part in welcoming our audiences to productions and providing information.
Our marketing team helps to co-ordinate running the website, our social media and the production and distribution of marketing materials.
