Welcome to SUDS

About Us

A popular amateur dramatic society with longstanding links to the local community, Sheffield University Drama Society (SUDS) is a friendly and welcoming theatre group in the heart of Sheffield. We always welcome new members and whether you’re a budding thespian or keen to get involved with production design, directing, stage management, marketing, front-of-house roles or with our technical team, we’d love to hear from you.

For our latest news you can follow us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

SUDS returns to the stage once again! From 29 June to 2 July 2022 we shall be performing ‘Going to Pot’ by Georges Feydeau in the University Drama Studio. Tickets are now on sale! More information here.

Our normal operation in 2020-2022 has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic but the show goes on – we were finally able to return to the stage in December 2021 with one of Shakespeare’s most popular and accessible plays – Twelfth Night, directed by Ian Gledhill! You can see photos from the play and more information here.

In addition to that, we also held a series of very successful virtual play-reading sessions online in 2020 and 2021 and we have published clips from video recordings of the sessions – you can see them by clicking here!

In April 2021 we held our historically first online performance. It was ‘La Ronde’ by Arthur Schnitzler, in a new translation / adaptation by our own Ian Gledhill. You can now watch the recording of the amazing performance here!
