Welcome to SUDS
A popular amateur dramatic society with longstanding links to the local community, Sheffield University Drama Society (SUDS) is a friendly and welcoming theatre group in the heart of Sheffield. We always welcome new members and whether you’re a budding thespian or keen to get involved with production design, directing, stage management, marketing, front-of-house roles or with our technical team, we’d love to hear from you.
Our normal operation has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic but the show goes on – we held 3 very successful virtual play-reading sessions online in September, November and December 2020 and we have been gradually publishing clips from video recordings of the sessions – you can see them by clicking here! And we will be hosting another evening of play-reading on 14th May 2021 – you can find more information here.
On 28th April 2021 we held our historically first online performance. It was ‘La Ronde’ by Arthur Schnitzler, in a new translation / adaptation by our own Ian Gledhill. You can now watch the recording of the amazing performance here!
In May we also held an online rehearsal of our upcoming production, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, that you can watch here. In addition to that, we created the first SUDS online theatre quiz in July which is now over but you can still access the quiz here if you want to test your theatre knowledge!
We can also recommend you to listen to The Broken Crab, an audio play that was created for Festival of the Mind. Hannah Goraya, the producer of the play, and Julia Busby who stars as the lead character Kim are both SUDS alumni and very talented people so we can guarantee you will love the play!
