SUDS back on stage!
12 – 18 December 2021
SUDS are returning to the stage at last with one of Shakespeare’s most popular and accessible plays!
Ian Gledhill will be directing Twelfth Night and will be aiming for a production that creates a party atmosphere just before Christmas. We’re not only looking forward to seeing our audience again, but believe it’s just as important to welcome our members back to the Society so we can all celebrate live theatre again after so long. So expect music, Christmas decorations, roles for as many people as we can realistically include and, of course, lots of fun.
There are tremendous acting opportunities, including two substantial female roles. Some gender-blind casting would also be possible and could be very interesting in a play where gender identity is one of the key themes.
Online Social Reading
The online reading of Twelfth Night will take place on Thursday 16 September at 7.15 for 7.30pm. All are welcome. Thank you to all those who have already confirmed they will be there. The evening provides an ideal opportunity to read the play with other members of the group and to meet people online before the auditions.
A Google Meet link and copy of the script will be sent to all who wish to take part. If you haven’t already done so, please let David Walker know by emailing David.Walker@sheffield.ac.uk
Auditions will be held on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 September at 7.30pm. All are welcome, both ‘new’ members and ‘old’. Auditions will take place in Drama Studio Rehearsal Room 1, Shearwood Road, Sheffield S10 2TD. The entrance is on the right hand side of the road going up the hill, just beyond the stage door. You only need to attend one of the auditions.
If you would like to attend one of the auditions, can you please contact our Chair David Walker (email@example.com) as soon as possible who will give you more information about what you need to do if you want to attend.
It is hoped to have a cast read through of the play on Thursday 7 October at 7.30pm in the Drama Studio rehearsal rooms. (To be confirmed)
Rehearsals will then begin w/c 11 October. Although there will be three rehearsals a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, the rehearsal schedule will be drawn up to ensure that no-one needs to attend every evening. Once or twice a week should be the norm in the early stages of rehearsal.
All rehearsals commence at 7.30pm and will finish by 10pm at the latest. Rehearsals will take place in the Drama Studio rehearsal rooms.
